Palma Aquarium

Hi there!!!
Today I had to get up at 4 am and now I should sleep, but looking way back, since when I was a child I have not needed a few hours of sleep. My poor beloved mother can confirm this. When she mentions my childhood she always emphasizes that I was worse than my twin brother. I had a very light sleeper…. Okey, I’m writing at length….

Today I want to raise a subject for the next tourist attraction aimed at children – Palma Aquarium. This amazing place was funded in 2007 and is the first opened in Mallorca. Palma Aquarium is the property of Coral World International. The aim of this institution is “spreading awareness, knowledge and admiration for the beauty of the marine world and in order to encourage interaction with its many different species

This park is divided into several parts, for example: The Mediterranean Sea, Tropical Sea, Mediterranean Gardens, The Jungle, Big Blue and Jellyfish Tank. However, this is not a whole range of activities!! The number of attraction is endless, for example: “Dive with the Sharks” or “Shark Sleepover”.

Unfortunately, I haven’t had yet the opportunity to be at Palma Aquarium. I hope to change that this year!!!!!

The First Holy Communion

Hi Everyone!
How are you? How did you spend your last weekend? I know that I should write about Majorca, but today I want to change a topic. Now it is season of the First Holy Communion in Poland. Every sunday we can see boys and girls dressed elegantly and, of course, combed.

A few days ago, I went to the hairdresser and I saw a one mother who decided to enroll a daughter to the hairdresser at 6 a.m. Okay, this is something ordinary and normal to enroll a child to the hairdresser, but it isn’t normal so early!! The reason for this crazy situation was the First Holy Communion. I was really appalled, and I couldn’t figure out what to do. How can you go to the hairdresser at 6 a.m.?!

A child’s First Holy Communion is a happy time in her/his life and  we naturally want to mark the occasion with elegant dress and beautiful haircut. It is something obvious and evident, but in the same time we couldn’t get paranoid. Everything should therefore be done to find the proverbial golden mean :-)

Okey, it’s all for today!

Western Water Park :)

Hello Everyone!!
I promised to catch up with writing on the blog, but it is hard to find a little time to enter here and write something. I will not give up! I will keep my word!

In last post I wrote about Aqualand what is the most popular attraction among children. Today, I would like to continue this subject, but I will write about another water park in Majorca, about Western Water Park.

Park Map
The Western Water Park is the second-largest water park on the island after Aqualand. This attraction is located in Magaluf. The highest slides in the park are the Beast and the Mega Slide, which are both 20-25 m high. Other examples of tourist attraction for adults are: the Wild West, the Tornado, Boomerang and Tijuana Twins. However the originators have not forgotten about the children! There is a great space designed for the youngest in the family. There are: Children’s Paradise, Lago la Mina and Daky Park. These places are full of colors, mini slides and waterfalls. Also, the Western Water Park offers a wide range of gift shops where the most popular items for visitors are towels, sunscreen, toys, caps, t-shirts, of course, with Indian and cowboy designs. Obviously, there are here lots of stands with food and drink. The visitors can eat lunch in the open air watching children in the water.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t in this water park, but I will change this during holidays.
It’s all for today.

Aqualand :)

Hello again!
I have a backlog of writing…. Now I have to speed up because in the future I do not want to write posts with notes on my knees. You are aware that during the exams, the students do not have time for anything :)
Recently I wrote only about the monuments that’s why today I will put forward something for children. There are lots of tourist attractions in Majorca, but the most popular among children is AQUALAND.

Park Map
Aqualand is a large water park in Majorka ,located in the village El Arenal, with a great choice of slides, a wave pool, and other adventures, for example: the Black Hole, Harakiri, Banzai, Kamikaze o the Congo River. Of course some part of the attraction is designated for people who are over 1.50 meters tall. Also, the park has plenty of space and play areas. The children can enjoy for swings, slides, climbing structures and mazes. There is as well a gift shop and a lot of stands with drink and food.

Aqualand has only one defect….there are here a lot of queues. Once I waited 1.5h to go down a one slid. For many children it is a big problem, they don’t want to wait some much time. I can only recommend one solution: go to the water park on a weekday!

Okey, it’s all for today!

Alcúdia :)

Hi there!
How are you? I’m allergic and now it is the worst time for me because all the time I have runny nose. My mother calls me Rudolf. Do you know why?....I have a red nose, a very big, red nose. This is annoying….

In this post I want to write about tourist centre in the North of Majorca, Alcúdia. This amazing place is a large resort popular with families and couples due to the fine sand beaches, as well as the exquisite Old Town.

The name Alcúdia derives from the former Muslim Al Kudi. The city was funded in 1325 by King Jaume II on the site of the islamic settlement. During the next 4th centuries pirates attacked the city several times. This situation affected the slow depopulation of the city. In 1779 a decision was taken to support the city by constructing a harbor. This decision had a positive impact on the development of Alcúdia.

The hardbor of Alcúdia

Today’s city preserves the charming medieval street layout. The remains of Roman houses and an amphitheatre are narrow and irregular. Also, we have to remember about high architecture value of these monuments.

The Old Town
Finally, I would like to say that Alcúdia is perfectly restored and monuments, views are breathtaking.

What languages are spoken in Majorca?

Hello everyone!

How are you? Are you benefiting from a three-day weekend? I have the impression that I don’t know what  it means to rest. Ught! I have problem with that. How to “switch off”?? Always when I try to do, I am nervous…I don’t know how to explain it. Now, when I have a three-day weekend I try to do everything in one day. This is madness! Okey, I’m writing at length…

Today, I want to write about  the local dialect spoken in the island, Mallorquín. Mallorquín is a variant from Catalan, the main differences are the pronouns and a few words are other. Locals people will say that the language they speak is Mallorquín. It is noticeable there that natives they form a very nationalistic segment in society who claim mallorquín is a language in itself. Unfortunately, it isn’t! It is almost identical to Catalan! But I don’t doubt that having a dialect for local residents helps to create a common identity and culture. However, nowadays most mallorcans  they speak Catalan because they learn from the same books as children in Catalonia but always they speak both languages Mallorquín and Spanish, who is the only languages which has official status for the whole country.

Nevertheless, the tourists do not need to worry because a great number of local people are very proficient in English and German too. That’s all for today!

Local Majorcan Food

Hi, there!!

How are you? I think that all of us returned to the boring reality. In Poland we say “Święta, święta i po świętach”. This sentence means that we are preparing a very long time for Easter and then everything happens in one second. This is the sad truth but on the other hand during this preparation we always spend a lot of time with the family . I love this time!! :-)

In this post I want to focus only on the local food from Mallorca. At the beginning, I have to underline that the “Mallorquin” dishes contain usually local almonds, olives, walnuts, but what is the most characteristic on the meals of Mallorca are tomatos called Ramallet which are native to the island.

Ensaimada

Typical breakfast in Mallorca includes an ensaimada what is a delicious spiral yeast bun dusted with icing sugar. The local people say that make it off the island are never successful because it is impossible to do ensaimada without “the sea air” from Mallorca. All tourist come back to home with this delicious spiral!

Fideua

Another great majorcan dish is a type of paella called fideua. The mallorquin paella is made with noodles rather than rice. Every day all restaurants are serving this popular meals.

Okey, in the end of this post I would like to recommend the Mediterranean Diet. I firmly believe that this is a healthiest diet in the word!

Spanish dishes

Hello My Dear Readers!!
How are you? So, as I wrote in last post, I have to catch up on writing a new messages. Today, I would like to change a little bit a topic of my blog.  Now I will tell you about something that everyone wants to know which is Spanish dishes. In this post, I don’t want to focus only on  the local food of Mallorca because food is as integral to all Spain as its rich history. I choose only 3 dishes that in my opinion every tourist should know:

Paella
This delicious dish is well know internationally. There are lots of types of paella, but the three best know are:  paella valenciana, paella de marisco and paella mixta. The traditional version of paella it’s paella valenciana: rice, rabbit or chicken, white and green beans, vegetables.  The next version of this tasty rice- dish is paella de mariscos: rice, calamari, clams, mussels, fish, prawns. The last type is paella mixta, as the name says, is composed of paella valenciana and paella de marisco.

Gazpacho
Gazpacho is a tpically drink in summer. This cold soup made with cucumber, onion, garlic, olive oil and tomato is well know in all the word.

Tortilla
This delicious dish we can give a name Spanish omelette made with eggs, potatoes, onions and olive oil. It is a great starter for breakfast and a lot of Spaniards couldn’t imagine a week without tortilla.

In my point of view Spanish cuisine is rich of many flavors, but we have to remember that in all dishes can be the olive oil. I'm fan of paella :-) I can eat this delicious dish every day!

Deiá

Hi, everyone!
I know, I didn’t write a lot of time. Mea culpa mea culpa mea maxima culpa! But there have been many changes and improvements in my life sine Iast post. I changed my job and I survived completely doing up my flat. It time was crazy but now I know that we can’t be afraid of change.
Today, I would like to write about a small coastal village in Mallorca, Deiá. It is located near of Valldemosa. This amazing place is well-known thanks for musical and literary residents for example: Robert Graves, Laura Riding, Seizin Press. Nowadays in Deiá lives the poet and novelist Claribel Algería. One of the most interesting fact about Deiá for fashion fans is, that, there Ana Rubik married Sasah Knezevic.

I spend in Deiá one week and I know that I led a charm life because I had a opportunity to see a natural scenary of Mallorca. Also I knew a village life and I benefited to a tranquil, slow pace days. In addition, a views of narrow stony streets with old houses are breathtaking.

The Real Cartuja

Hi there!!
How are you? I finished all my exams. It’s time to relax! Zero books, zero learning! I’m very happy. I want to scream!! The first thing what I did when I finished me exams were sleeping. You may not believe me, but I slept 15 hours.
In the last post I wrote about Valldemossa. Now, I want to tell you something about one of the principal attractions of Mallorka, that is to say, the Real Cartuja. The Real Cartuja is nothing more that a monastery in Valldemossa but what is the most important for us is that in this place lived for some time Fryderyk Chopin with George Sand.
The original part of the monastery dates from the times of King James II, who chose this unique place in the Tramuntana montain to build a palace for his son Sanc. However, in 1399 King Martín el Huamano donated all the royal possessions in Valldemossa to the Carthusian Monks. These funded the monastery, The Real Cartuja.
Currently, the visit to the buildings starts in the church, them monks’ pharmacy, garden, chapel, library, bedroom, etc. In the other word, the tourists have the opportunity to see how the monks lived. Also, in cells 2 and 4 there are a lot of mementoes of Fryderyk Chopin and George Sand’s stay in Valldemossa between 1838 and 1839.
Cell of Chopin

In addition, as a person who visited this magnificent place, I can say that it is worth to go to Valldemossa because a views of the mountains are breathtaking.

Valldemossa: amazing place and amazing people

Hi there?
How are you? Do you have so much to learn like me? Sometimes I want to covert oneself with a blanket and sleep only two weeks. Do you understand me, right? Returning to the subject  of this blog. Today I would like to write about a special place for me in Mallorca, that is Valldemossa. In this place I spend a lot of time with me Spanish friends.
This amazing and small village is locket in the heart of the Sierra de Tramuntana, a distance of approximately 20 km from the capital of the Balearic Islands, Palma. The access to this mountain place is very easy, as it is communicated very, very well with many suburban lines. Thanks for this, travel to Valldemossa doesn’t last more than 30 min. This short journey characterized by amazing, breathtaking view.

Valldemossa

Sooo me dear bloggers I know that this post is very short, but really I don’t have time to write because in this week I have ONLY three test: today, tomorrow and after tomorrow. I hope that somehow, I don’t know how, I will pass all. To be continued…..

The nightlife in Palma!

Hi there!

In the last post I  started to write about Palma de Mallorca and now it’s time to mention something about the nightlife in Palma. Anyone who is looking for a fun, dancing, good music or food should go to La Avenida de Gabriel Roca known as Paseo Maritimo, it is place where the clubs, bars and discothèques light up the night. The atmosphere in all place is unbelievable. A characteristic feature of this street is a multiculturalism, it means that you can find there every nationality: Spaniards, Germans, Poles, Frenchmen, Englishmen, etc. Even thought Palma isn’t a big city but I am sure that everyone will find something special for himself in this crazy town.

The most famous nightclub in Palma is Tito’s. It was established back in the 1950. What is surprising for everyone in Tito’s a fun glass elevator. This place is quite amazing!! I know what I say J

The second most famous nightclub is  Pacha. The club embodies two different spaces one Main Room and one Funcky Room. Thanks for this division everyone can choose a music.

Palma de Mallorca

Hellooo!!
How are you? I think that all of us returned to the gray reality. In Poland we say “Święta, święta i po świętach”. This sentence means that we are preparing a very long time for Christmas and then everything happens in one second, in a trice. This is the sad truth but on the other hand during this preparation we always spend a lot of time with the family . I love this time J It is so much fun! Okey, the time blissful laziness is over! We have a work to do :P
In this post I would like to write something about the capital of Mallorca, also the autonomous community of the Balearic, Palma. The history of this city is very complicated because as an island, Mallorca has been subject of a lot conquests and invasions throughout its history; the Arabs, the Roman, the Moors…Thanks for numerous invasions in the architecture of the city can be see multiculturalism. The most famous monuments of the city is a Gothic Catholic cathedral, The Cathedral of Santa María de Palma built 1229-1601. The tourists visiting Palma can not omit this amazing place.

The next famous monuments is a Royal Palace of La Almudaina. This marvelous place having been built as an Arabian Fort. Nowadays, it is a museum related to the history of the city and the royal family.

In my opinion, it is enough information for today. To be continued…

New Year’s Eve in Spain

Helllooo everyone!
So as we all know three days ago was New Year’s Eve. I know, this blog is about au pair but in this post I want to write about Spanish Old Year’s Day because, for me, everything  related to Spain is very important.
Like all other place in the word, “Nochevieja” whose “old night” is celebrated in Spain with a flourish  and frenzy. Most of the Spanish spend this time with their family members or with friends. Currently, among young people is a growing trend to celebrate “Nochevieja” in clubs or bars. But, one tradition isn’t changed i.e. the Twelve Grapes. All Spaniards eat twelve grapes, one by one, keep time with the clock as it strikes midnight.  What is the most important in this tradition all people believe that if you manage to eat all the grapes in time, you are in for a year of good luck. In Spain there is a one place that has a special link with the Twelve Grapes: the clock in Puerta del Sol Square in Madrid because this tradition started there in 1909.
Also exist other tradition very interesting i.e. the Red Underwear. A lot of Spaniards during New Year wearing red colored underwear. They believe that red is a symbol of prosperity and good luck.
Of course all this is accompanied by music, dancing, fireworks and New Year's greetings.

Happy New Year!

May this year be the one in which all your wishes come true. The one in which your dreams may turn into reality and all your fears may fade away. Happy New Year!
